Headstart

About Headstart

Headstart is a program designed to make the transition to university life easier for our incoming students and their parents or guardians. It’s an introduction to life and learning at Laurier to ensure you get off to a strong start at Laurier.

The cost for Headstart is included in the "Transition and Orientation" fee for incoming first-year students.

Advising

Our on-campus Headstart sessions are your opportunity to meet with an academic advisor before starting classes. All students are encouraged to register for courses before attending Headstart. Course registration for incoming students opened on June 12 at 10:00 a.m.

Academic advisors can help with:

  • Confirming you are registered in the correct courses.
  • Discussing program requirements and senior-level courses.
  • Exploring minors, options and concentrations

All important Headstart information, including information about parking and schedules, will be sent to your myLaurier email. Check it often!

Presentations and Other Support

Our Headstart program includes faculty presentations, sessions for you and your parents to learn about life at Laurier, opportunities to meet with other incoming students, and a campus resource fair to ensure you haven’t missed anything.

At Headstart you will:

  • Discuss the differences between high school and university.
  • Meet with an academic advisor to review your class schedule.
  • Work with a student ambassador to revise your schedule as needed.
  • Learn about applying for scholarships, bursaries and completing your OSAP application.
  • Get your Laurier student ID card (OneCard).

Financial Orientation Session (on select days):

Scholarships, bursaries, financial aid, oh my! For many students and their parents, attending university means new financial responsibility – but we’re here to help! Attend this session to learn all about financial resources and supports, invoicing and fees, and tips on how to financially plan for September. This session will be hosted on Thursday June 27, Friday June 28, Wednesday July 3, and Monday July 15th from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. If you are attending a Headstart session on a different day, please visit our Financial Literacy team at the afternoon Resource Fair for information on financial support!

Upload your photo to receive your student card at Headstart

Upload your picture to OneCard Photo 48 hours prior to the start of your Headstart session to ensure your OneCard can be printed and picked up at Headstart. Please note that you must be enrolled in at least one class to use OneCard Photo. To obtain your OneCard, you must provide government-issued photo identification such as a driver’s licence or passport.
