Drop-In Help

Have a math question? Need help with that stats formula? Students can obtain assistance understanding concepts from a variety of areas in mathematics – fundamentals, algebra, calculus, proofs, linear algebra, financial math, probability and statistics, etc.

The Mathematics Assistance Centre (MAC) operates a traditional drop-in help centre, in which senior undergraduate students provide assistance to any student seeking help with:

  • General mathematics questions at an introductory level.
  • Any 100-level mathematics course.
  • Selected 200-level mathematics courses: MA201, MA205, MA215, MA222, MA241, ST230, ST259/260.
  • Any introductory statistics course offered by any of the academic departments: BU/EC255, EC245, EC285, PS295/296, GG254/258, PO218, SY382.

Drop by with a quick question in between your classes, or plan to stay for a while to work on assigned homework problems, individually or in small groups.

  • Monday April 2 to Friday April 6 - 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day
  • Monday April 9 to Friday April 13 - 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day
  • Monday April 16 - 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday April 17 - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday April 18 - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday April 19 - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Friday April 20 - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Monday April 23 - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Regular hours of operation, Monday Jan. 8 to Thursday March 29:

  • Mondays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Fridays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

During Reading Week, the centre will be open on Thursday Feb. 22 and Friday Feb. 23, from noon to 4 p.m. each day.

If you are taking MA101, MA110*, MA121 or MA122, then be sure to check out our Directed Homework Sessions ("Math SI") as well.

In Residence Help Sessions (Tuesday, Jan. 9 - Tuesday, April 3;  no sessions Feb. 18 or Feb. 20):

  • Sundays, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.,  King Street Residence (main floor study room, beside the laundry room)
  • Tuesdays, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., Waterloo College Hall (basement level study room)

If you do not live in the particular residence, go to the building's main entrance and buzz or call the duty don (the number will be posted).

Take advantage of our drop-in sessions to get extra help with math from our senior peer tutors.

Assistance is provided for:

  • Essential mathematics, algebraic skills from the secondary school math curriculum;
  • Any 100-level Mathematics course (MA127, MA170); or
  • Quantitative concepts from other courses, including introductory probability and statistics (such as PS296, HS324, OL334, CC327).

No appointment necessary! Simply drop by with a quick question or two, or plan to stay for a while to work on assigned homework problems, individually or in small groups.
