Whether you need a little help getting your resume, cover letter, or interview skills ready for job applications, we can help you feel more prepared and confident. We’re senior co-op students who have been through it all: applying, inanding work terms, and we’re here to share what we’ve learned.

The Co-op Peer Mentor Program provides an excellent opportunity to build your work-related skills while supporting your career development, all while helping fellow golden Hawks succeed in co-op!

About the role
The Co-op Peer Mentor Program consists of a team of senior co-op students who volunteer in-person or virtually who:
- Support for resumé and cover letter critiques, interview preparation, job search and networking advice.
- Organize and facilitate student panels, speaker series events, and other mentorship activities.
- Create and maintain resources, such as training materials, guides and reference documents.
- Provide feedback and suggestions to co-op staff through focus groups and advisory meetings to enhance services and student support.
- Collaborate with co-op staff to ensure events align with student skill development, networking interests and career preparation.
- Can volunteer for a 2-hour shift per week, scheduled between 10am and 2pm, Monday to Friday, either virtual or in-person.
Requirements
We are looking for volunteers who:
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Maintain a high level of customer service, confidentiality and interpersonal skills while working with students who may be experiencing stress
- Are passionate about developing their own career awareness and helping fellow students succeed
- Are willing to take on projects that support helping other students succeed in the co-op program
Who Should Apply?
Senior co-op students who are enthusiastic about mentoring others and are looking for a volunteer opportunity that draws from your co-op experiences in a consulting and advisory setting.
Training
New volunteers begin preparation for their duties in advance by completing virtual training assignments and videos on MyLearningSpace prior to the start of term.

Co-op Advice to Junior Students: Always be proactive during your co-op. In addition to delivering quality and timely work, ask what else you can do or suggest improvements to existing processes. Demonstrating initiative sets you apart and leaves a lasting impression.

I am also a member of Her Campus Laurier Marketing. I enjoy hanging out with family and friends, playing golf, travelling, and cooking. Co-op advice to junior students: Work hard and don't hesitate to ask questions. You never know what opportunities might come from your work term, so leave a positive and lasting impression

I grew up playing hockey and soccer competitively but retired from playing long ago! I now like to watch the NHL and have recently gotten into Formula 1. Co-op Advice to Junior Students: Take your time and be patient when applying! New roles appear almost every day, and I believe it is better to apply to a role that resonates with you rather than worry about how far into the application process you are. This is one of the best learning opportunities for career development and highlights future areas and positions that you may or may not be interested in after your time at Laurier. Make the most of it when aligning your career goals and applying for work-term roles! Good luck!
