Giving and receiving support for sexual violence
Despite increased media attention and cultural awareness, gendered and sexual violence continues to be a pervasive problem in our society. That’s why Wilfrid Laurier University is participating in 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
If you have been impacted by sexual violence or are in an unhealthy relationship, it can be difficult to know where to turn. For bystanders and loved ones, it is also challenging to know the appropriate response to support someone who has experienced harm.
Laurier’s Office of Dispute Resolution and Sexual Violence Support is here to help with any issue related to gendered and sexual violence. Its team members can provide direct support and advocacy for students and connect them with personalized resources and options for reporting. You can follow their Consent is Golden campaign on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to find out about upcoming programming and workshops on campus and in our community related to gendered and sexual violence.
There are also a variety of free resources available online for Laurier students to access when dealing with sexual violence:
- support for survivors of sexual violence
- advice on healing from trauma
- how to help a survivor of sexual violence
- understanding consent
- education and volunteer opportunities on campus
