The month of June is traditionally Bike Month at Laurier, an initiative led by the Sustainability Office to promote the positive environmental impact of cycling and the health benefits of active forms of transportation.
This year, the Sustainability Office is encouraging members of the Laurier community to get active outside in safe and inclusive ways through Get Your Move On contests. Whether by cycling, running or walking, Get Your Move On contests offer the opportunity to explore the great outdoors in safe and physically distanced ways, as well as the chance to win some great prizes.
Laurier’s Sustainability Office is running two Get Your Move On contests. Participate in one or both, but please be sure to abide by physical distancing guidelines when outdoors.
Complete Can-Bike Canada’s 45-minute online bicycle safety certificate program. Email your certificate to sustainability assistant Brooke Dietrich with the subject line “Can-Bike Bike Safety Certificate” to be entered into a prize draw for one of three $25 e-gift certificates from bicycle shops in Laurier’s campus communities.
Create a fun active transportation route on the Milermetre website, which allows users to plot paths that resemble shapes, patterns and words. Be sure to record when you complete your route on the Strava app and share it on social media with the hashtag #GetYourMoveOnLaurier and tag @LaurierGreen to be entered into a prize draw for one of two $50 e-gift certificates from Adventure Guide. Each route share on social media earns you an entry into the prize draw.
Prize winners will be announced June 30 on the Sustainability Office’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts and contacted through their Laurier email account. Follow along on social media to stay informed.
