Winter, Spring and Intersession 2021 Deadlines and Important Dates

As a new semester begins, it’s a good time to plan ahead and keep in mind the important dates and deadlines.

Appreciating the importance of wellness in these challenging times, the holiday break between the fall and winter semesters has been extended by one week. To accommodate the extension, winter classes will now begin on Monday, Jan. 11 and spring classes will begin on Monday, May 10.

Undergraduate 2021 Important Dates

12-Week Winter 2021 Courses

January

  • Jan. 4: Co-op work term begins.
  • Jan. 6: University opens.
  • Jan. 11: Winter classes begin.
  • Jan. 11: Tuition fees due.
  • Jan. 11–15: If you drop/withdraw during from 12-week courses this time period, no tuition charged.
  • Jan. 15: Application to Graduate form (without late fee) is due for spring convocation.
  • Jan. 16–22: If you drop/withdraw during from 12-week courses this time period, you are responsible for 10% tuition (assessed at course rate).
  • Jan. 16–April 1: Late penalty fee applies on Application to Graduate forms received for spring convocation.
  • Jan. 22: Last day to add winter term courses.
  • Jan. 23–March 12: If you drop/withdraw from 12-week courses during this time period, you are responsible for 55% tuition (assessed at course rate).

February

  • Feb. 15: Family Day; no classes.
  • Feb. 16–19: Winter Reading Week.

March

  • March 12: Last day to drop course(s) or withdraw from full-year or 12-week winter course(s) without failure and for possible tuition adjustment (assessed at course rate).

April

  • April 1: Last day to submit Application to Graduate form (penalty fee applies) for spring convocation. No forms will be accepted after this date.
  • April 2: Good Friday; no classes.
  • April 12: Winter classes end.
  • April 12: Make-up Friday class for Good Friday.
  • April 13–14: Study days.
  • April 15–30: Final examination period. Students are advised not to make travel commitments during this time period.
  • April 30: Winter term ends.
  • April 30: Co-op work term ends.

May

  • May 24 –29: Winter term deferred examination period. An appeal for a deferred examination must be submitted to the academic unit in which the course is offered. The deferred examination dates are confirmed, if approved, in writing from the petitions committee.

13-Week Winter 2021 Courses

January

  • Jan. 11–15: If you drop/withdraw during this time period, no tuition charged but remain registered (students must remain registered in at least one course). Note: Students who withdraw from the graduate degree program must complete the Request to Withdraw from Graduate Studies form.
  • Jan. 15: Application to Graduate form (without late fee) is due for spring convocation.
  • Jan. 16–22: Students enrolled in programs where fees are based upon courseload and who drop any course(s) in this period (even if replaced with another course or courses) will be assessed 10% of the tuition fee for the dropped course(s).
  • Jan. 16–April 1: Late penalty fee applies on Application to Graduate forms received for spring convocation.
  • Jan. 22: Last day for late registration and adding winter term courses.
  • Jan. 23–March 12: If you drop a course (or courses) (students enrolled in programs where fees are based on course load) or withdraw from your graduate program (all graduate students) during this time period, you will be assessed a 55% tuition fee.
  • Jan. 29: Final day for submitting final (post-defence) copy of dissertation/thesis/MRP (if applicable) to Scholars Commons, and receipt in the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office of signed program/defence documentation for possible full refund of winter term fees.

February

  • March 12: Final day for submitting final (post-defence) copies of dissertation/thesis/major research paper (if applicable) to Scholars Commons, and receipt in the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office of signed program/defence documentation for possible tuition adjustment (tuition charge assessed 55%).

April

  • April 1: Last day to submit Application to Graduate form (penalty fee applies) for spring convocation. No forms will be accepted after this date.
  • April 2: Good Friday; no classes.
  • April 19: 13-week winter and fall/winter classes end.
  • April 19: Make-up Friday class for Good Friday.
  • April 30: Final day for completion of all coursework, receipt of final grades and/or submitting final (post-defence) copy of dissertation/thesis/MRP (if applicable) to Scholars Commons, and receipt in the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office of signed program/defence documentation to be eligible to graduate at Spring convocation.
