Winter 2021 courses offering in-person instruction
Dear Laurier graduate and undergraduate students,
I hope this email finds you well as we end our first month of fall term classes. As I shared earlier in September, Laurier will be delivering Winter 2021 courses primarily through remote and virtual delivery.
Our academic leaders continue to focus on ensuring that you have the highest quality – and the safest – learning experience possible in the winter term. Each academic program has identified if there are courses where the university plans to offer in-person instruction for winter 2021, assuming governmental and health and safety guidelines permit us to do so.
You can read the full list of remote/virtual and in-person undergraduate and graduate courses organized by faculty on the website.
- It is important to note that you will not be required to attend classes in person if you choose not to. In these situations, you will be able to attend the class in another format (e.g. virtually), or plans will be made for you to complete the course in another term.
- Courses and other curricular elements that were considered priorities for in-person instruction or supervision were based on criteria such as: those courses that must be offered for students to meet graduation requirements; experiential learning courses that take place off-site at a placement location; research-based courses that require access to laboratories or to on-campus learning materials; practical study courses that require access to learning materials (e.g. instruments);and courses necessary for licensing or accreditation requirements.
- There are also several research-based graduate courses that involve individual or small-group instruction or supervision that have been identified as candidates for in-person instruction. Executive-style, cohort-based graduate programs taught at alternative Laurier sites such as Toronto, or with off-peak times that don’t have a large number of students on campus at the same time may also be held in person.
For students who have questions that are not addressed on the web listing, please consult with academic advising for course and program specific questions. For questions specific to graduate students, please email your graduate coordinator or email fgps@wlu.ca. For registration related inquiries please contact ServiceLaurier.
I encourage you to access the supports available to you as you navigate our remote learning environment. The Remote Learning Hub connects you to academic, mental health and technology supports, and outlines the on-campus safety protocols for students, including completing the COVID-19 Self-Assessment on Laurier’s SAFEHawk app before attending campus and downloading the Government of Canada’s COVID Alert app.
I continue to look forward to the day that we can meet in person; in the meantime, thank you for doing your part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protecting the most vulnerable in our families and communities.
Sincerely,
Tony Vannelli
