Calendar Description

A thorough introduction to limits of functions. Continuity and its consequences. Rational, algebraic and transcendental functions and geometric relationships. Theory and applications of differential and integral calculus of functions of a single variable The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus and techniques of integration. Introduction to multivariable calculus and applications.

J. Stewart: Calculus (Early Transcendentals), 8th Edition, Brooks/Cole (Cengage Learning) and a course pack of notes.


Students may only use the approved scientific calculator, Casio FX-300MS Plus, on course tests and the final examination. No other calculator is allowed. It is available for purchase at the campus bookstore.

A final mark out of 100 will be calculated as follows:

  • Pre-Calculus Exam (in class, Friday, Oct. 20, 2017): 10%
  • Clickers: 10%
  • Online Assignments: 10%
  • Laboratories: 20%
  • First Term Exam (December exam period, exact date and time to be announced, 2 hours): 20%
  • Final Exam (April exam period, exact date and time to be announced, 2.5 hours): 30%

Your final mark will be calculated according to the above formula, and then any bonus marks from Pre-calculus Modules (see course outline) will be added, up to a maximum of 100. The final mark will be converted to a letter grade in accordance with the conversion table of the current undergraduate calendar.
