MA103A, B and C: Calculus I (Fall 2018)

Calendar Description

 Limits and continuity; differential and integral calculus of functions of a single variable; the Mean Value Theorem; determination of extrema; the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus and techniques of integration; introduction to partial derivatives.


MA102, or a minimum score of 70% on the Calculus Preparation Evaluation (CPE); and Grade 12 Calculus or MA100 or MA129.

J. Stewart: Calculus (Early Transcendentals), 8th Edition, Brooks/Cole and a course pack of notes (available at the bookstore).


Students may only use the approved calculator, Casio FX-300MS Plus on course tests and the final examination. It is available for purchase at the campus bookstore. No other calculator is allowed.

A final mark out of 100 will be calculated as follows:

  • Weekly Online WeBWorK Homework: 7%
  • Lab - Online WeBWorK Quizzes: 7%
  • Lab - Written Assignments: 13%
  • Midterm Exam (Monday, Nov. 5, 7 p.m. - 8:20 p.m.): 30%
  • Final Exam (2.5 hours, exact date, time and location to be announced): 43%

The final mark will be reported as a letter grade in accordance with the conversion table of the current undergraduate calendar.
