MA101B, C: Calculus I for the Natural Sciences (Winter 2018)

Calendar Description

Review of algebra and trigonometry. Differential calculus of the algebraic, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric and inverse trigonometric functions of a single variable; introduction to integral calculus; techniques of integration. Introduction to ordinary differential equations. Polar coordinates. Complex numbers. Applications to problems in the natural sciences are emphasized.

Calculators

Students may only use the approved scientific calculator, Casio fx-300ms plus, on course tests and the final examination. No other calculator is allowed. It is available for purchase at the campus bookstore.

Evaluation

A final mark out of 100 will be calculated as follows:

  • Clicker Questions: 10%
  • WebWorK Assignments (weekly): 10%
  • Lab-Problem Sessions + Quizzes: 20%
  • Midterm (Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, 12:30 p.m. - 1:50 p.m. in BA101 and
    BA201): 25%
  • Final Examination (2.5 hours; date and time to be announced): 35%

The final mark will be reported as a letter grade in accordance with the conversion table of the current undergraduate calendar.
