MA419A: Differential Geometry (Winter 2018)

Calendar Description

Geometry of curves and surfaces, curvature, geodesics, first and second fundamental forms, the Gauss Theorema Egregium and the Gauss-Bonnet theorem. Differential forms and vector fields. Line and surface integrals. The divergence and Stoke's theorems.

Prerequisites

MA201, MA222, MA205, and a 0.5 MA credit at the 300 level.

Evaluation

A final mark out of 100 will be calculated as follows:

  • 3 Assignments (3x10%): 30%
  • Midterm Test (Tuesday, Mar. 6, 2018, in class): 30%
  • Final Exam: (exact date, time and location to be announced): 40%

The final mark will be reported as a letter grade in accordance with the conversion table of the current undergraduate calendar.
