The Faculty of Social Work will be running a doctoral level Writing for Publication course that we will be offered this spring 2022.
This doctoral-level social work course is designed to prepare students to write and publish scholarly articles. It addresses publishing ethics and personal and practical elements of the writing-publishing process.
An outcome of the course is expected to be a manuscript of publishable quality and a list of appropriate target journals. The course is comprised of reflective elements including exploring personal writing processes, writing habits, and impediments to writing. It also addresses practical elements of manuscript writing, including determining scope and focus of a manuscript, audience, content and language of writing, selecting journals, journal expectations, and preparing different types of manuscripts (empirical, theoretical, policy-related, practice-related).
Students will learn to edit their own and others' manuscripts, including providing written peer feedback as occurs in the publication process.
The course will be taught by Dr. Magnus Mfoafo-M'Carthy and will be offered hybrid (in-person in FSW 101 and via Zoom). Class sessions will meet on Wednesdays, 9:30 am – 1:30 pm over a 9-week period, May 4 – June 29.
Please contact Magnus Mfoafo-M'Carthy if you have any questions. Students from outside the Faculty of Social Work who wish to take the course need to complete the relevant sections of the Graduate Program Change Request form and obtain permissions from Magnus Mfoafo-M'Carthy and their program’s Graduate Coordinator.
