Choosing an Ambassador Role

Backstage Assistant

The period before graduates cross the stage can be quite nerve wracking. Your job is to help them enjoy their big moment. During the conferring of the degrees, you will ensure that graduates keep their voices to a whisper backstage and are holding their hood properly.  You will also help distribute Orator Break Cards, which is critical to the stage crossing process.

Guest Greeter

You're the friendly face that welcomes family and friends to the venue. You'll advise grads on where to pick up their gowns and hoods, help guests with special needs, and direct guests to the ticket scanners.

Line-Up Energizer

You exude the fun vibe while students hang out in the line-up room before entering the auditorium. You will assist the marshals as needed and encourage graduating students to participate in our social media platform.

Marshal

Guide graduates through the pre-ceremony line-up, procession, stage crossing and recession. Marshals must be staff or faculty members and wear academic regalia in order to participate.

Regalia Assistant

You will help issue regalia (gowns and hoods) to graduates. This includes checking participation cards, providing the appropriate gown and hood, and answering questions.

Social Media Wizard

If you are outgoing and social media savvy, this job is for you. You'll visit ceremony staging areas where graduates will be to take photos and post messages with the convocation hashtags to contribute content to the pre-ceremony using the official Laurier Convocation social media account.

Ticket Scanner

All guests entering the auditorium will require tickets. Your job is to:

  • Using the iPads provided, or your personal device, scan the tickets that guests provide either on their electronic device or on paper.
  • Direct guests without tickets to the overflow room.
  • Direct guests with any difficulties to Guest Services in the lobby.

Usher

We are counting on you to help guests feel comfortable, answer questions and find their seats. As all ceremonies are ticketed, you will ensure that there are no gaps between the seated parties.

Please arrive early to familiarize yourself with the location of reserved seats for guests you identify as having accessible needs.

Viewing Attendant

For the guests who do not have tickets to a Waterloo ceremony, we feature the live-streamed ceremony in LH3094 – a lecture hall located on the second floor of Lazaridis Hall. At the Brantford campus, we feature the live-streamed ceremony in SCJ 127 (SC Johnson).

You will be in the viewing room to assist our guests and answer any questions.

Make sure our visitors know they can join their graduates for refreshments at the reception following the ceremony.
