Academic Support

To help you with your studies, there are several options to help you achieve academic success.

Glossary of Academic Terms

There may be words and phrases used at Laurier that you haven't heard before. Our glossary of terms can help you better understand them, and help you navigate Laurier's academic environment.

International Student Advising

Our International Student Advisors (ISA) are available to assist all international students in Waterloo and Brantford. Advisors provide support, answer questions and help you find the resources you need. They can help you with:

  • academic planning
  • adapting to life in Canada
  • health and wellness
  • career development
  • financial challenges
  • university procedures and policies
  • immigration information and support

If you would like to meet with an ISA, schedule an appointment or come by the Laurier International office during drop-in hours.

Transition Advising Program

Transition advising is for first-year students having academic challenges that could result in academic probation or having to withdraw from Laurier. You can meet with an ISA to discuss the challenges you are facing and to review your options. This program will help you learn more about Laurier's support systems and help ensure your future academic success.

Academic Advising

Meet with an academic advisor for additional guidance and support, and for help developing your academic plan. Academic advisors support students in a specific group of programs. They can help you find success in your courses, and plan your degree to meet your professional goals. You can meet with an academic advisor during drop-in hours or schedule an appointment.
