Getting Involved

We want you to feel at home at Laurier. The best way to do that is to get involved in your community. Being involved in on- and off-campus activities allows you to meet new people, develop new skills and experience new cultures and ideas.

There are a variety of programs, activities and services to help you get involved and to truly make Laurier your home away from home.

Ways to Get Involved at Laurier

Volunteering is another great way to get involved on campus and can help you gain experience in your chosen career field. The Career Centre can also help you find the right volunteer experience for you!

Become a Student Leader

Upper-year international students can apply to become an ISL in Waterloo or an IPM in Brantford. You are paired with incoming international students to help orient them with life at Laurier and provide guidance throughout the school year. You are an important resource for first-year students as you are trained in university services, mentoring, leadership, mental health issues.

Apply through Navigator in February of each year.

Understand and Communicate Across Cultures

Intercultural and socio-cultural training is offered to both international and domestic students to provide understanding and communication across cultures. These programs teach appropriate interpersonal interactions in academic, social and career settings. You will also learn how to apply this information for best results in the new culture.

You can take the eight-module Intercultural Certificate virtually and receive credit on your experience record.

Attend Events and Join Groups on Your Campus

In addition to events and groups through Laurier International, you can also get involved with one of the many campus-wide clubs and associationsintramural and club sports or varsity athletics.
