We know that challenges can happen any time and that you might need support when campus services aren’t available. To help ensure you have the support you need, you can download the free My Student Support (MySSP) app, available for iOS and Android, available to all international students.
Through MySSP, you’ll have access to support 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and services are available in your preferred language. You can connect with a counsellor over chat or the phone, and service is confidential and culturally relevant.
The app also has a variety of articles and videos on topics related to university life, like study tips, managing homesickness, tips for living with roommates, healthy eating advice and more.
In Canada, walk-in clinics and doctor’s offices are reliable and trustworthy options for medical care. The Student Wellness Centre offers a variety of physical health services, but if you require after-hours care you can visit a walk-in or after-hours clinic.
For emergency or urgent care, go to the emergency department of the hospital or call 911.
Health insurance coverage is required to study in Ontario, and all international students receive health insurance coverage through the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). As an undergraduate degree-seeking international student, you are automatically enrolled in UHIP and the fees will be added to your account on LORIS.
Understanding your health care coverage can be challenging sometimes but we’re here to help. Contact us at laurierinternational@wlu.ca in Waterloo or lbinternational@wlu.ca in Brantford if you have any questions about UHIP or need any further assistance.
The Supplementary Health and Dental Insurance Plan extends coverage beyond what is covered by UHIP. The plan is run by the Students' Union and is mandatory for all students.
Learn more about the plan, including what is covered and how you can opt out.
