Here are three essential steps to check your move-out readiness.
A check-out that does not follow the steps above, and any damages incurred while you lived in residence, can result in a monetary fine.
Your don will complete the check-out form, noting any issues in the room or suite. The Department of Residence will determine if fine/charges will be invoiced.
If you need an extension to stay in residence, you must complete and submit the online Residence Extension Request form by the stated deadline.
The reasons for staying will be evaluated by the Residence Management team.
Property left in a residence room more than 48 hours after you check out is considered abandoned. The Department of Residence does not accept responsibility for the storage or safekeeping of property abandoned in residence rooms or buildings.
The checklist below applies to all students living in domitory- and apartment-style residences.
The following list applies specifically to students living in apartment-style residences.
Ensure that garbage is taken to the appropriate bins as usual for your building (i.e., garbage rooms or exterior garbage bins). Garbage must not be left in your room, bathroom, hallway, lounge, etc.
Many additional large garbage bins have been placed around campus for extra disposal locations.
Room checks are completed by residence life dons during the fall and winter reading breaks and when you move out.
These checks are mandatory to make sure the rooms are in the same condition that was indicated in your mandatory room condition report that you completed upon move-in. Your dons will let you know when your room checks are before they enter your room.
If you fail to comply with the check-out procedures, you may be charged $300.
If your room or suite are not left in satisfactory condition, you will be charged for any additional cleaning required. If you are in an apartment-style residence, you and your roommates are jointly responsible for damages, cleanliness or losses.
You will be billed separately for any damages to your room/apartment. The amount charged will be determined by the cost of the repair.
Damages will be assessed based on the condition of your room/apartment at move-in, as indicated in your mandatory room condition report. If you did not complete your room condition report upon move-in, you will be found responsible for all damages assessed in your space.
If nothing is reported at the time damage was caused (broken furniture, vandalism, etc.), and no conduct process/residence follow-up can take place, students assigned to that space will be financially responsible for all accidental property damage and/or vandalism to private rooms/suites.
An invoice for damages will be emailed to you. Charges for damages will be placed on your Laurier student account as per the due date noted on your damage invoice. You can view this charge by logging in to LORIS.
All residency contracts are for the entire academic year, beginning on the day you move in (in September) until 24 hours after your final exam in April.
Early withdrawals are only considered for extreme cases.
If you are considering moving out of residence, speak to your Residence Area Life Coordinator.
Residence Life Dons will not accept or receive residence keys for any student withdrawing from residence before the conclusion of the winter term exam period in April.
Inquiries about possible refunds must be directed to the Residence Life Manager.
Refunds will not be provided if your residence contract is terminated if there is a breach of residence contract.
