Ride the Wave: Workshops for Wellness and Well-being

Learn to Ride the Waves of student life with our skill-building workshops designed to offer practical tips for increasing resilience, managing stress, and developing skills to cope with the turbulence of life.

Join us in the Student Health and Development Centre on Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. to learn about wellness from Student Wellness Centre professionals all year long.

Ride the Wave workshops are drop-in, free, and do not require registration.

January 9/10: Self-Care and Resilience (Ripple Effects)

Learn how your habits can impact your sense of well-being and your ability to cope throughout the day.

January 16/17: Overcoming Sadness (Navigating the Storm)

Get helpful information about depression and tips for managing stormy weather. This workshop offers practical ways of dealing with sadness and ideas about how to help a friend who is low.

January 23/24: Meditation (Ride the Wave)

Mindfulness can help reduce rumination and over-thinking to reduce stress and anxiety. Learn about mindfulness and participate in an introductory meditation exercise.

January 30/31: Coping with Adversity (Moving Beyond Tidal Waves)

Sometimes the waves are huge or just won’t stop crashing. This workshop offers simple but effective strategies to help you manage and get through difficult times.

February 6/7: Healthy Relationships

Healthy relationships are essential to wellness. In this workshop we will talk about respectful relationships, how to maintain one’s wellness within them, and coping if they end. It will address the development of positive conversations about consent and the importance of personal boundaries.

February 13/14: Food and Your Mood (Hangry?)

The food we eat impacts our physical health and our mental wellness. Learn tips for eating well, managing emotional eating, and preventing yourself from becoming “hangry.”

February 27/28: Power of Connections (Building Systems of Support)

Building systems of support and knowing how to refer a friend in distress. You can’t pour from an empty bucket.

March 6/7: Gratitude (Enjoy the Water)

Gratitude and creative activities help you recharge during busy times. Take some time for yourself, and join us for a creative activity that is focused on gratitude.

March 13/14: Emotional Regulation (Waves Ebb and Flow)

Join us to talk about strategies to increase resilience, awareness, and emotional control.

March 20/21: Vocational Wellness (Find Your Bliss)

Learn how to uncover your talents and passion now, so you are prepared for work you find that is authentic, meaningful, and brings you joy throughout your professional life.

March 27/28: Exams and Performance Anxiety (Ready, Set, Compete!)

Every surfer needs to practice before they compete. Learn ways to handle performance anxiety, improve your mental game, and find inner calm during midterms and exams.
