Ride the Wave on the Waterloo Campus This Summer
The Ride the Wave workshop series is designed to offer useful tips for increasing resilience, managing stress, and developing skills to cope with the turbulence of student life. Drop in to hour-long workshops on the Waterloo campus throughout the summer to learn about wellness from Student Wellness Centre counselling staff.
On the Waterloo campus, workshops run Thursdays at 2:30 in the Wellness Education Centre, downstairs from the Student Wellness Centre and down the hall from Veritas Cafe.
Schedule
May 30: Food and Your Mood The food we eat impacts our physical health and our mental wellness. Learn tips for eating well, managing emotional eating, and preventing yourself from becoming “hangry.”
June 6: Self-Care and Resilience Learn how your habits can impact your sense of well-being and your ability to cope throughout the day.
June 13: Meditation Made Easy with Muse Muse meditation involves the use of headbands that use electroencephalography (EEG) to detect electrical activity in your brain. These brain signals guide your meditation session through auditory feedback ( weather and nature sounds). Muse headbands will be provided for use during the session. Bring your mobile device and headphones.
Space is limited in this workshop: please email Nathan Reeve ahead of time to reserve a spot.
June 20: Consent and Healthy Relationships Healthy relationships are essential to wellness. Join us to talk about respectful relationships, how to maintain wellness within them, and how to cope if they end. We will also discuss having positive conversations about consent and the importance of personal boundaries.
June 27: Gratitude Gratitude and creative activities help you recharge during busy times. Take some time for yourself, and join us for a creative activity that is focused on gratitude.
July 4: Social Media and Mental Health In this workshop, we will discuss how social media can impact mental health, ways to set boundaries on social media use, and healthier ways of thinking about the role of social media in our lives.
July 11: Exam and Performance Anxiety Learn ways to handle performance anxiety, improve your mental game, and find inner calm during midterms and exams.
