Travel update: Laurier Extends Travel Ban
Wilfrid Laurier University is extending its travel ban for all university-sanctioned travel to include those countries assessed by Global Affairs Canada as “Exercise a High Degree of Caution” due to novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
This extension is in addition to the previously announced cancellation of all Laurier-sanctioned travel to China for staff, faculty, undergraduate and graduate students until further notice.
As of 12 p.m. today, Feb. 24, the only country assessed by Global Affairs Canada as “Exercise a High Degree of Caution” due to COVID-19 is South Korea.
Laurier will monitor the Global Affairs Canada travel advisory website daily and will post the names of countries that have been assessed as “Exercise a High Degree of Caution” due to COVID-19 by 12 p.m. each day.
The cancellation of Laurier-sanctioned travel includes exchanges, research activities, research placements, field courses, conference travel, university business travel, or any other travel that has been approved, authorized or supported by a Laurier department, staff or faculty member.
For personal travel, the university encourages all members of the Laurier community to follow the Global Affairs Canada travel advisory website and closely monitor the situation.
If students are unable to return to the university as a result of the travel restrictions in other countries, undergraduate students should contact academic advising in the faculty in which they are registered for appropriate support and counsel. Graduate students should contact their program advisor. Contact information is available on Laurier’s Academic Advising webpage.
