The Laurier International Cultural Conversations (LICC) sessions have been a great way to learn and find out about other cultures. During the pandemic it has shown how we can truly still learn about each other while being in an online environment, as to a space together in person. My group and I talked a lot about our different cultures and showing how we each are different or the same from one another. I’ve taken away different knowledge from my group members, so that in the future it helps me understand and realize why people do certain traditions and other ways to respect each other.
A key lesson I learned from these sessions is to never judge a book by its cover and to be more attentive and conscientious of others' culture and the way they live their lives. It allowed me to see how “cultured” people view people and how unaware they are to different realities and judgement, this also helped me acknowledge others that no matter who you are you have a speech in this world, and you belong here and whatever people say about you, you just focus on yourself for the greater good. Overall, I enjoyed what is to come for the future and to keep an open mind to anything that comes my way, if there’s anything that I would recommend is to use LICC to your own advantage and learn what you’ve been missing as well if you want to become more aware of culture!
