BI499‡ Intent to Register Application Form
The BI499 Thesis is a major field or laboratory research project in an area of biology individually supervised by a faculty member in Biology and completed over Fall and Winter terms (Sept to April). The course involves guided independent research resulting in the submission of a thesis.
To apply for BI499 complete this form and also attach a letter of motivation (uploaded with this form). Your letter of motivation should explain why you wish to pursue a research thesis and must be no more than 500 words.
Application Deadline: Applications are accepted until the start of Fall term but require approval of a Thesis supervisor.
Notes:
- Acceptance into BI499 Thesis is subject to the availability of a research supervisor.
- Students interested in a Thesis Project are encouraged to meet with potential supervisors prior to applying to discuss their interests in research.
- Students should have:
- a GPA of at least 7.0
- completed 15.0 credits* in any Honours Biology, Water Science and Environmental Health or Environmental Science program
- and have taken a “research methods” type course (e.g. BI196, BI296, CH390, PS295 or other)*.
- Applications may be accepted after the deadline but only with the approval of a Thesis supervisor.
- *exceptions are possible with department approval and these requirements do not apply for Water Science and Environmental Health and Environmental Science students.
