MA101A: Calculus I for the Natural Sciences (Spring 2020)
Calendar Description
Review of algebra and trigonometry. Differential calculus of the algebraic, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric and inverse trigonometric functions of a single variable; introduction to integral calculus; techniques of integration. Introduction to ordinary differential equations. Polar coordinates. Complex numbers. Applications to problems in the natural sciences are emphasized.
Prerequisites
MA100 or permission of the department.
Exclusions
MA103, MA105, MA110*, MA130. This course may not count for credit in Mathematics programs

Calculators
Students may only use the approved scientific calculator, Casio FX-300MS Plus, on course tests and the final examination. No other calculator is allowed. It is available for purchase at the campus bookstore.

Evaluation
A final mark out of 100 will be calculated as follows:
- WebWorK Assignments: 10%
- Lab-Problem Sessions + Quizzes: 20%
- Midterm Exam (Wednesday, June 17, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. - 5:20 p.m: 30%
- Final Examination (2.5 hours; exact date, time and location to be announced): 40%
The final mark will be reported as a letter grade in accordance with the conversion table of the current undergraduate calendar.
