    Calendar Description

    An introduction to modelling tools used in modern applications of mathematics, with examples from the applied sciences and finance. The course will focus on the translation of real-world problems into an appropriate mathematical context, and on their subsequent solution, with emphasis on the uniformity of the modelling approach over various disciplines.

    Prerequisites

    MA205, MA307 or CP315/PC315.

    Mathematical Modeling: Models, Analysis and Applications, Sandip Banerjee, CRC Press, 2014.

    Calculators

    Students may use a non-programmable, non-graphing calculator on course tests and the final examination.

    Evaluation

    A final mark out of 100 will be calculated as follows:

    • Clickers: 5%
    • Assignments: 25%
    • Tests (multiple, in class, dates to be announced): 40%
    • Group Project: 30%

    The final mark will be reported as a letter grade in accordance with the conversion table of the current undergraduate calendar.
