Course Overload Request Form: Faculty of Science
This form is for Faculty of Science students seeking approval for a course overload.
The normal course load per term for most Faculty of Science programs is 2.5 credits per term (typically five 0.5 credit courses). After reviewing the year/program information below, complete this form to appeal to register in a course overload, if needed. Normally an overall GPA of 9.00 is required for consideration.
First-year full-time Faculty of Science students: LORIS will allow registration in up to 2.5 credits per term. Complete this form to request to take 3.0 credits in a term. Note that a course overload for a first-year student is exceptional and infrequently approved.
Senior full-time Faculty of Science students in Honours programs: LORIS will allow registration in up to 3.0 credits per term. Complete this form to request to take more than 3.0 credits in a term. Note that a load of 3.5 credits, or more, in a term is exceptional and infrequently approved.
Senior full-time Faculty of Science students in General programs (in good standing): LORIS will allow registration in up to 2.5 credits per term. Complete this form to request to take 3.0 credits, or more, in a term.
Senior full-time Faculty of Science students in General programs (on academic probation): LORIS will allow registration in up to 2.0 credits per term. A course overload will not be approved for a student on academic probation.
Part-time Faculty of Science students: Part-time students enrol in less than 2.0 credits per term. To enrol in 2.0 or more credits, you must request to transfer to full time studies by completing the Full-Time Studies Request Form (Waterloo).
Upon submission, your request form will be forwarded to the Science Academic Advising office (N1054) for review. The decision of the Associate Dean (or designate) will be communicated through your MyLaurier email account.
