Helpful Tips to Prevent Your Zoom Event from Being Disrupted

    Jan. 29, 2021

Most of the time, Zoom meetings go by without a hitch, however, there are incidents that do happen from time to time. Below are some steps you can take to prevent your meeting from being disrupted.

Security Settings to Help Prevent Disruptive Participants

    1. Prevent Removed Participants from rejoining the meeting. To access this setting, first log in to wilfrid-laurier.zoom.us and click “Sign In”:

Click on "Settings" on the left-hand toolbar and turn off "Allow removed participants to rejoin" that is listed under "In Meeting (Basic)"

    2. Once you start your meeting, click on the Security Icon and Uncheck the following "Allow Participants to" options:

    • Rename themselves
    • Unmute themselves
    • Share Screen
    • Turn on camera

    3. Once the meeting has started consider changing the chat functions to allow participants to only message the host so that messages cannot be sent to everyone. This can be done by clicking on "Chat" then clicking on the "..." and selecting "Host Only".

    4. Rehearse your event with a meeting event chat assistant to practice how to manage issues that may come up such as muting / turning on microphones, removing participants, etc.

    5. Review the Best Practices for Securing Your Zoom Meeting.

    How to Remove Disruptive Participants:

If your meeting or event is disrupted by a participant, you can remove them from your meeting by clicking on "..." then selecting "Remove" as noted below.
