Get Involved: Student Clubs and Groups
The Sustainability Office isn't the only way to get engaged on campus with sustainability initiatives. There are student-run clubs, councils, and associations that are always looking for new members to join. If you want to get involved, connect with one of the student clubs or councils below!
SDG Advocacy Network
This club aims to build on the momentum of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in efforts to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. The 17 SDGs cover three dimensions of sustainable development: economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protections. Our clubs focus is to educate and advocate for the partnerships of these goals.
Enactus (Waterloo and Brantford)
Enactus is a community of entrepreneurial leaders who see business as a way to address social issues. It is one of the largest student leadership organizations in the world, and has chapters on university and college campuses across the globe. Each teach works to address the world’s most challenging social, environmental and economic issues.
Enactus is the world’s largest experiential learning platform dedicated to creating a better world while developing the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders and social innovators. The Enactus network of global business, academic and student leaders are unified by our vision—to create a better, more sustainable world.
EcoHawks (Waterloo and Brantford)
EcoHawks works to raise awareness of environmental issues, promote sustainable living and encourage the reduction of individuals' ecological footprints. To achieve this, we hold a number of events and promotions throughout the school year. Their mission is to encourage the development of environmentally friendly and sustainable living habits of students and to work towards limiting Laurier’s ecological footprint. There's no Planet B, so let’s make it count!
To get in touch with the EcoHawks, connect with their Coordinator at ecohawks@mylaurier.ca.
Sustainability Council (Residence students)
The Sustainability Council is comprised of first-year students from across campus who aim to unify Residence Life and the Sustainability Office through creating integrated programming and providing increased access to campus resources. Students involved in this council will collaborate on planning, promoting, and executing residence-wide events and programming that enable the first year community to engage in sustainable activities and learn about their environmental impact. This council promotes environmental awareness, reducing consumption and making the Laurier campus a greener place.
C3IL Labs Students' Association
C3 Innovation Labs (C3IL) is a hub of socially innovative and community-engaged experiential learning opportunities in the Faculty of Arts. C3IL creates these opportunities with a unique partnership among the three ‘Cs’:
- The Laurier campus;
- The tri-cities(Waterloo, Kitchener and Cambridge); and
- Our local communities.
Hawks Beyond Borders
This club aims to inform Laurier (Waterloo Campus) students about the many opportunities in health care around the world while learning about different health-related issues faced by nations around the globe. HBB allows hawks to explore beyond what is familiar in Canada through facilitating educational seminars and volunteer opportunities abroad to gain exposure beyond the classroom (i.e. Me to We, Save a Child's Heart, Gap Medics). Anyone interesting in giving back to the global health community is welcome to join our initiatives which will include sending first aid kits abroad as well as fundraising for relief efforts in international communities. Open your mind to the global medical community and learn about health through others' eyes!
