Zero Waste Challenge
Curious to how much waste you produce every week? Then take part in this unique challenge!
1) Sign up for the Zero Waste Challenge
2) Pick up a mason jar from the Sustainability Office at the Concourse on Monday, March 9th between 12:30PM and 3:30PM or use your own 500mL mason jar.
3) During Zero Waste Week from March 9th to March 13th, try to keep your jar as empty as possible. Only put your garbage in the mason jar – keep composting and recycling as you usually do. You can do it at home, school or both!
4) Use the hashtag #ZeroWasteLaurier on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter to share your progress
5) Fill out the follow-up survey by March 20th, 2020 to be entered into our prize draw
By completing the follow-up survey, you will be entered into a prize draw to win one of 14 prizes for Waterloo or one of 5 prizes for Brantford! Note - you must fill out the follow-up survey by Friday, March 20th, 2020 to be entered into our prize draw.

Monday, March 9th – Zero Waste 101
Bin Blitz @ the Terrace
11AM to 1PMStop by the Terrace to sign up for our Zero Waste Week Challenge and grab a mason jar. We’ll even have volunteers stationed at the Zero Waste Bins to help guide you through proper waste sorting practices.
Zero Waste 101 and Travel Mug Giveaway @ the Concourse
12:30PM to 3:30PM
If you want to get started on living a more zero-waste lifestyle, stop by our Zero Waste 101 booths. We’ll have the following booths available to you:

Tuesday, March 10th – Zero Waste 101 Brantford

Our Brantford EcoHawks and Sustainability Office will be in the RCW Lobby handing out Cupanion Travel Mugs! Mugs will be available on a first come, first served basis so make sure you get there early.
Zero Waste 101 with Karsnaturalkreations @ the Multipurpose Room (SC)
12:30PM to 1:30PM
Join us for our first Staff Sustainability Workshop this year in Brantford! Karsnaturalkreations will be hosting a DIY beeswax wrap workshop along with providing 10 practical zero waste swaps. Karsnaturalkreations is a local, zero-waste business right here in Brantford. Their mission is to support others on their journey of reducing waste through workshops, education and zero-waste swaps. Karleigh and Shelley, are advocates for our mama earth.

The Sustainability Office is partnering with LSPIRG to host a Clothing Swap in the Concourse. Bring a clothing item or a small household item to trade it in for another piece of clothing. Help us move towards a more reusable mindset when purchasing clothes.
Thursday, March 12th – Lifestyle
DIY Personal Care Workshop with The Eco Well
1:30PM to 2:30PM
A DIY Beauty workshop taught by Jen Novakovich, cosmetic scientist, environmentalist, and director at The Eco Well. Jen has a passion for green and science-driven formulations and claims, which she will bring to this workshop.
After an information filled class on active ingredients, essential oils, carrier oils, and green beauty, you will get to make your own product to take home!
Intro to Sewing Workshop @ the Library Makers Space
3PM to 4PM
Have you ever wanted to learn how a sewing machine actually works? Have you never sewn before but want to start? Or is hand sewing just not cutting it anymore?
Consider signing up for this workshop! In this intro workshop you will learn how to thread a sewing machine, basic techniques and how the machine works. We will also cover how to troubleshoot common problems.

Friday, March 13th – Closing the Loop
Freestore Grand Opening @ 232 King St N (Basement)
9AM to 12PM
After a successful pilot in August 2018, the Laurier Sustainability Office in partnership with Martin Luther University College is ready to open up a permanent Freestore. We are planning for a Grand Opening on Friday, March 13th, which is at the end of our Zero Waste Week 2020 Campaign. Stop by our Freestore in the basement of 232 King St N to pick up a free item for your home! No registration is required for this event.
