Varsity Athletics

Varsity Teams

Laurier has 550 varsity athletes on 22 varsity teams including baseball, basketball, curling, football, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, rugby, swimming, cheerleading and more. 

Brantford has varsity teams for both men and women in cross country and indoor soccer. These teams are classified as tournament sports under the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) sport model.


  • Laurier has won 11 national and 19 provincial championships in the last 10 years alone.
  • 19 football players have been drafted into the CFL in the last 10 years, including three in the first round.
  • Women's cross country were the OCAA Champions and won third at Nationals in 2019/20. Vanessa Brown won the Female Cross Country Championship.
  • Laurier won three conference major awards in 2018/19, including the women’s rugby Russell Division MVP.
  • Men’s basketball had their best season in 40 years after winning the OUA West Division in 2018/19.
  • Men’s hockey forward Danny Hanlon won a bronze medal with Team Canada at the 2019 World University Winter Games.

Our varsity teams are housed by many state-of-the-art facilities. The following locations are where you can find our teams during game seasons:

  • Men's and women's basketball: Athletic Complex Gymnasium
  • Men's football: Knight-Newbrough Field, University Stadium
  • Women's lacrosse: Knight-Newbrough Field, University Stadium
  • Men's and women's rugby: Knight-Newbrough Field, University Stadium
  • Men's and women's soccer: Knight-Newbrough Field, University Stadium
  • Men's and women's indoor soccer: Laurier Brantford YMCA
  • Swimming: Athletic Complex Pool
  • Men's baseball: Bechtel Park
