Accessible Learning Centre (ALC) welcomes students with disabilities to Laurier. We hope you become a Golden Hawk!!
The ALC has supported students with disabilities for more than 35 years. Thousands of students registered with our unit have successfully completed their academic and personal goals at Laurier.
We are experienced in working with students with all types of disabilities and whose access needs range from mild to complex. This includes students who identify as blind, deaf, have mobility or functional disabilities, chronic illness, learning, mental health, or attention disabilities, identify on the autism spectrum disorder or have multiple disabilities.
Our process for determining accommodation and support needs is generally the same for all students. After reviewing your documentation, we meet with you in confidence to learn how you experience your disability at school. With this information and your academic plan, we work with you to develop a plan best suited to your access needs.
Accommodations at university remove barriers so you can equitably access the learning environment. They do not guarantee success but once access barriers are removed, many students can be successful.
Some Things to Note
- Unfortunately, we cannot review documentation or meet with students who are still deciding between universities
- We review disability documentation, meet with you, and approve accommodations only after you accept an offer of admission to Laurier
- We can only discuss your accommodation needs directly with you, not your parents or other supporting individuals
