Adele Slater Award for Writing on World Peace
This award competition is open to all undergraduate and graduate students who are currently registered at Laurier. The purpose of this competition is to encourage and recognize serious and skillfully written student contributions to research and reflection on world peace and its promotion. There are two $500 prizes:
- one for a critical essay (empirical, conceptual or theoretical submissions welcomed); and,
- one for a shorter piece of prose, poetry or fictional narrative.
Pieces of writing from previous coursework are eligible.
The committee will consider submissions related to conflict and the search for peace from local to global perspectives, from military, economic and political dimensions to environmental, cultural, psychological and religious ones. There are a wide range of potential themes, but the committee will look for concrete links to the overarching theme of the award to establish eligibility.
Deadline: April 17h, 2023.
Format
Submissions must be typed and uploaded electronically and submitted as part of the three-step process below. Do not put your name on the uploaded version of your submission piece as the contest has a blind jury.
