Are you interested in being the face of Laurier? Are you passionate about Laurier? Do you have a wide
variety of on-campus experience? If you have strong communication skills, interpersonal skills and
initiative, we want YOU to apply to be a Laurier Ambassador! You will lead campus tours, be a part of
prospective student special events and help us inspire the next generation of Golden Hawks!
This opportunity is available to any current undergraduate student.
Laurier Ambassadors are ultimately the face of Laurier. These are the individuals we entrust to introduce
prospective students and their families to life at Laurier. Laurier Ambassadors are individuals who are
passionate about Laurier and have a wide variety of on-campus experiences. They must demonstrate
strong verbal and written communication skills, exceptional interpersonal skills and must showcase their
responsibility and ability to take initiative. Above all else, Laurier Ambassadors are dedicated to
influencing and inspiring the next generation of Golden Hawks.

Based in the Welcome Centre, Laurier Ambassadors are the student representatives on the Recruitment
& Admissions team. Laurier Ambassadors support institutional goals through the in-person and virtual
participation in Laurier Recruitment initiatives:
Roles and Responsibilities
Hosting campus tours
o Campus tours may be conducted on-campus/in-person and virtually.
o Please know that on-campus/in-person tours will be offered to the public only when
public health and university regulations deem it safe for us to do so.
o For virtual tours, ambassadors will be grouped together and can expect (and are
expected) to participate in approximately 1 tour every third week
o For in-person tours, participation will vary based on academic schedule, proximity to
campus (eg. If you are learning from home) and university policy.
'Open House' programming
Student life and program panels
'live chat' question & answers
Speciality tours
Outreach programming (targeted at grade 11 and younger)
o In addition to above;
o host programming and activities
Support communications activities by being interviewed/profiled for print and digital marketing
Returning Ambassadors are expected to participate in the training and mentorship of new
Ambassador staff.
Your profile will be available on the Laurier website for students to contact you directly about
your Laurier experience. Monitoring of a work email and prompt responses are expected.
Participate in a video PenPal program
Attend weekly ambassador meetings (typically lasting for one hour)
Other duties as assigned.
Training:
Participate in summer training activities
Participate in online summer quizzes based on information provided during the training and
supplemental communication.
Fall Revival and tour kick-off training (half-day, early-September)
Tour training takes place throughout September and October.
Winter Revival training (half-day, early-January)
General training and opportunities to learn more about Laurier occurs at our weekly meetings
and throughout the year via email.
It is the responsibility of the Ambassador to learn, retain and effectively communicate their
knowledge of Laurier from personal experience and information provided by Recruitment &
Admissions (e.g. manual, training, meetings, newsletter, etc.)
You will also receive enhanced presentation skills and customer service training.
Limited activities (including onboarding and training) will begin as soon as April 2021. Training
participation and expectations will be clearly communicated. Definite start of September 2021 and
ambassadors may continue until April or August 2022. Flexibility and accommodation will be made for
students who are participating in academic placements, co-op, exchange or are not living in Waterloo
due to COVID.
Qualifications:
Be a current undergraduate student with good academic standing.
Possess experience gained from participation in various aspects of the Laurier community
(academic research, athletics, campus/program/faculty clubs and associations, residence life,
volunteer positions, Students' Union, etc).
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Able to articulate information and ideas accurately, confidently and clearly in various in-person
and virtual activities.
Able to communicate (via email) with prospective students and their parents in a professional
manner.
Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to 'connect' with people and leave a lasting impression.
Ability to work independently, problem solve and take initiative.
Have a passion for Laurier; embody the true Laurier spirit and be excited about sharing their
experience with others
As the pandemic, health and safety regulations, and various resources continue to change, so do the
strategies that need to be executed to meet institutional goals. Laurier Ambassadors need to be fluid in
their expectations as new roles and responsibilities may be asked of them, and other initiatives may
become no longer be feasible. As such, clear, honest and open communication to each other and the
management/coordination team is both a qualification and a responsibility of the role.
