Career Resource Centre

The Laurier Career Resource Centre contains comprehensive career-related information including career options, employer directories, labour market information, further education information and application supports, graduate admission test resources and job search, resumé and interview preparation resources. All students are welcome to come and explore the resources to help you with preparing for your future.

Resources can be borrowed overnight with a $10 deposit with the exception of any resources marked "Reference." The Career Resource Centres also provide access to the Laurier wireless network and provides a comfortable place to read and prepare job applications.

Sections in the Resource Centre

  • Career planning: learn how your personality and skills set can assist with deciding on your career.
  • Occupational information: career options by academic major, interest area, industry and more.
  • Labour market information: job hiring trends, salary information and opportunities in particular industries.
  • Resumés/cover letters: sample resumés, keyword ideas.
  • Job search/networking: tips for conducting an effective job search and accessing the hidden job market.
  • Interviews/negotiation: tips for successful interviews including sample questions and answers as well as salary negotiation resources.
  • Career management: how to succeed in the workplace and how to make a career change.
  • Employment equity: resources for students facing equity-related career issues such as workplace accommodations, employment standards and disclosure.
  • Employer directories: contact information for organizations divided by type of industry including business, finance, healthcare, social services, media/advertising, science and search firms.
  • Work abroad: resources including directories, helpful tips on looking for international work, writing résumés and CVs, cultural etiquette and teaching English as a second language information.
  • Further education: program directories for Canadian, American and international programs, specific information for areas of study including teacher education, law school, medical school and MBA, information on application procedures including how to write personal statements.
  • Graduate admission tests: information and preparation books (LSAT, GMAT, GRE, MCAT, etc.).
  • Professional association and employer literature: learn about opportunities to join professional associations, professional development opportunities and employer recruiting information.

Career Centre Handouts

  • Laurier Experience Guides: handouts to help guide you through your experience at Laurier including information about the knowledge and skills you will develop in your program and career options
  • Books and handouts developed by Career Centre staff to assist you with writing a résumé, conducting an informational interview, interview skills and much more. You can access the handouts electronically through Navigator.
