International Education Studies
International Education Studies (IES) is a partnership between the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Arts. You will take Global Studies courses that orient you to the complex realities of our world, and Education courses that develop teaching skills for settings of cultural and linguistic diversity.
The IES program will equip you with the knowledge and experience to pursue a Bachelor of Education and internationally oriented teaching in the future, or further study and work in a broad range of education-related fields, like international development, migration and settlement, or human rights. See the Careers page to learn more about what you can do with an IES degree. Also, make sure you read the Program Details page to find out about the pathway into the Laurier Bachelor of Education program.
IES cannot normally be combined with another major, since it is already like a combined major that has required courses from both Global Studies and Education, so you will need to keep careful track of the program requirements as you plan your studies. See the Program Details page for more guidance, but also familiarize yourself with the Academic Calendar and MyDegree. Make sure you are consulting the right version of the calendar, according to the year you entered the program.
On the Program Details page, you can also find out more about how you can shape your degree to reflect your personal interests and goals, like completing the Teaching English as a Second Language certification with Conestoga College. Finally, don’t forget to check out the Placements page to find out about the experiential learning you will do in IES!
