Program Requirements

The Lazaridis Master of Business Administration (MBA) general program formats require the completion of 20 half-credit courses, consisting of a combination of required and elective course offerings.

Waterloo Full-Time
Requirements include 10 half-credit required courses and 10 half-credit elective courses offered over three terms.
Term Structure
Term 1: 8 required courses (BU601, BU602, BU603, BU604, BU605, BU607, BU608* and BU609)
Terms 2 and 3: BU606, BU608*, BU610* and 8 electives
Note: No exemptions are granted for prior course credit due to the integrated nature of the program.
Waterloo Full-Time with Co-op
Requirements include 12 half-credit required courses and 8 half-credit elective courses offered over three terms as well as the completion of two work terms.
Term Structure
- Term 1: 8 required courses (BU601, BU602, BU603, BU604, BU605, BU607, BU608* and BU609)
- Term 2: 2 required courses (BU606, BU608*), plus 4 electives
- Term 3: Work term
- Term 4: Work term
- Term 5: 4 elective courses and BU610*
Note: No exemptions are granted for prior course credit due to the integrated nature of the program.
Waterloo Part-Time
Requirements include 12 half-credit required courses and 8 half-credit elective courses offered over ten terms. Lectures are held in the evening, with a normal course load of two courses per term for three terms a year. The program takes 3.3 years to complete and has been designed to allow the part-time student the flexibility to decrease or increase their course load beginning term five, including the opportunity to transfer to full-time registration beginning term five upon completion of the required first 8 core courses offered in term one thru term four. Students who transfer to full-time registration will be required to pay full-time fees.

Note: At the time of admission, you may have been granted exemption toward your MBA required courses for prior course credit. Keep this in mind when planning your schedule and contact your MBA program leader if you are uncertain about your program requirements. A request for exemption from required courses must have been submitted with your application to the program.
Toronto Part-Time
Requirements include 12 half-credit required courses and 8 half-credit elective courses offered over ten terms. The program is completed on a part-time alternate weekend basis over a 3 year period. Lectures are held on alternating Friday evenings and Saturdays with a normal course load of two courses per term for three terms a year. There are occasions that a back-to-back weekend schedule may result in any given term. Toronto part-time MBA degree programs begin every April.

Toronto Part-Time MBA/MFin
Requirements include 22 half-credit required courses and four MBA elective courses. This program is designed for working professionals and requires four years of part-time study to complete. Lectures are held on alternating Friday evenings and Saturdays with a normal course load of two courses per term for three terms a year.
