Awards

The following endowed scholarships and bursaries are available to Laurier Brantford English students:

Barbara Parker Memorial Scholarship in English

The Barbara Parker Memorial Scholarship in English was established by Robert and Shirley Parker in honour of their late daughter, Barbara Parker, a Laurier Honours English student to recognize her love of English and Canadian literature.

The scholarship is automatically granted to the student with the highest mark in EN324: Canadian Women's Writing during the previous academic year, and has continuing registration at Laurier. The student must be a Canadian citizen. Financial need is not a consideration.

Flora Roy Scholarship

The Flora Roy scholarship was established by colleagues, alumni and friends of Flora Roy, professor emerita of English.

Three scholarships are granted annually to students with the highest GPAs entering year 2, year 3 and year 4. You must be full-time, undergraduate students in the Honours English program.

Jerry D. Young Bursary Fund

Open to full-time undergraduate students who are registered in the English program with satisfactory academic achievement. Multiple bursaries may be granted annually.

You must be a long-term Ontario resident, prove your financial need, and be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident (landed immigrant) or Protected Person.

Lennard Family Award in Honours English

The Lennard Family Award in Honours English is granted to full-time undergraduate students in year 3 or year 4 of the Honours English program with a minimum cumulative GPA of 9.0 (B+). Two awards are granted annually. The students must be Ontario long-term residents with proven financial need as well as Canadian citizens, permanent residents (landed immigrants) or protected persons. 

Margaret Fulton Award

The Margaret Fulton Award was established by James Doyle, Laurier English professor (1974-97), in honour of Margaret Fulton, former Laurier English professor (1967-74), dean of women's studies at the University of British Columbia (1974-78), president of Mount St. Vincent University (1978-86), author, public speaker, social activist, member of the Order of Canada and recipient of 11 honorary degrees.

The award is open to full-time undergraduate students in year 2 or year 3 of the Honours English or combined Honours English programs (full-time students in year 3 General English who have been admitted to the Honours program are eligible) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 10.0 (A-). Preference will be given to applicants who have provided evidence of their commitment to cultural and/or humanitarian activities through participation in student associations, campus or community cultural and political clubs/committees or volunteer programs. The student must be an Ontario long-term resident with proven financial need as well as a Canadian citizen, permanent resident (landed immigrant) or protected person. 

A student may only be granted this award once.

Pauline Carole Leavine Scholarship in English

The Pauline Carole Leavine Scholarship in English was created by Desta Leavine in memory of her sister, Pauline Carole Leavine (BA '58), a graduate of Waterloo College. Pauline enjoyed a lifelong interest in language and literature, and English was her favourite course at Waterloo College.

Full-time undergraduate students in year 2 of the Honours English program are eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship is granted automatically to the student with the highest cumulative GPA (the minimum eligible GPA is 10.0 (A-)) in a minimum of 5.0 credits who declares a major in English.  In case of a tie, the student who has the highest admission average will be granted the scholarship. If the student maintains full-time registration with a minimum GPA of 10.0 (A-), the scholarship is renewable in year 3 and year 4.

W. Ross MacDonald Memorial Scholarship

The W. Ross MacDonald Memorial Scholarship was established by the W. Ross MacDonald Memorial Foundation to foster the memory of the Honourable W. Ross MacDonald.

Open to year 1 full-time, undergraduate students of the English, History, Criminology or Law and Society programs at Laurier Brantford.

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must complete all secondary school requirements during the school year immediately preceding admission to Laurier. You must demonstrate community-building or leadership in the wider community.
