Graduate Conference and Research Awards

We've gathered a list of potential awards and funding options you can explore to help fund your conference presentations so you can share your musical insights.

Faculty of Music Graduate Conference Award

Toward supporting students’ scholarly and professional engagement and dissemination of their graduate work and/or artistry, the Faculty of Music invites graduate students to apply for funding to help offset the costs of presenting at academic and professional conferences through presentations, performances, keynote addresses, posters, workshops, panels, or roundtables.

Each award is up to $250.

Application Guidelines and Process

Registered students in graduate programs within the Faculty of Music are eligible to apply, and students must apply for the award in the same academic year they are attending the conference. The presentation, performance, keynote address, poster, workshop, panel, or roundtable must be confirmed (i.e., accepted or invited) at the time of the application. A student can be awarded the award up to one time during their Master studies, and up to two times during their PhD studies.

To apply for the award complete the Student Conference Award Request Form. The Dean, Faculty of Music, in consultation with faculty, reviews the applications. Each applicant will be notified of the decision via email.

After the event, successful awardees must submit a brief (one to two paragraphs) summary of your involvement.

Reimbursement Requests

Requests for reimbursement must occur within 30 days following the conference. All expenses must comply with Laurier's Expense Handbook. Applicable forms and directions will be provided when the student is notified of the outcome of their application.
