Applied Water Science

Applied Water Science is a new Honours BSc program beginning in September 2016. It is an interdisciplinary program jointly operated by the departments of Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Geography and Environmental Studies.

The program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the physical, chemical and biological properties of water and its critical role in maintaining ecosystem and human health.

Students learn how to identify and solve ongoing and emerging threats to our water resources including those caused by human activities and climate change. This is achieved by combining classroom, laboratory, field and practical work experience (co-op work terms for eligible students) to give students the scientific knowledge as well as the analytical, computing and communication skills and experience needed to contribute to society’s need to maintain and improve the availability and safety of Canada’s and the world's water resources.

Students completing an Applied Water Science degree learn about hydrology, limnology, biogeochemistry, toxicology, biology, water governance and policy.
