Student Success supports academic skills in numeracy, studying, and writing. We know that academic life can be challenging, so that's why we're here. Take advantage of our various programs and resources to help you thrive at university no matter your program and year level.

Our three units offer multiple professional and peer-led programs that empower student learning and academic success:

Math and Course Support

Access dedicated support for your coursework through mathematics, statistics, and quantitative programs.

Study Skills

Develop the learning skills you need to excel in your academic studies through our appointments, workshops, programs, and online resources.

Writing Support

Learn writing strategies that help you grow as a student and critical thinker through our appointments, workshops, programs, and online resources.

Appointment Types

Get help or support for: 

  • exam preparation (50 minutes)
  • peer academic coaching (25 minutes)
  • math and/or statistics (30 minutes)
  • study skills (50 minutes)
  • time management (30 minutes)
  • writing (50 minutes)

Guidelines

The following guidelines help us to provide you with effective and efficient services.

Cancellations and Missed Appointments

You must cancel your appointment four hours in advance. If you repeatedly miss appointments, your access to the Student Success Portal will be limited. You can connect with studentsuccess@wlu.ca if you cannot access the Portal because of frequent missed and cancelled appointments.

Number of Appointments

We encourage you to book Study Skills appointments as needed. Your consultant will work with you to determine an appointment schedule that adequately meets your goals and their availability.

Writing appointments are limited to eight per term and no more than one appointment per day. We encourage you to book with multiple tutors to gain multiple perspectives on your work.

  • Brantford, in-person:
    • One Market, Student Commons. Proceed to the Consultant or Coach’s office. 
    • Writing Centre: Tuesday and Wednesday 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Waterloo, in-person:
    • 2nd floor of Peters building, check in at the reception desk.
    • Writing Centre: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m; Wednesday noon - 8 p.m.
    • For course support, proceed to Lazaridis Hall LH1018 or Bricker Academic BA104.
  • Milton:
    • Check your Laurier email for a link to a Teams meeting.
  • Virtual appointments: Check your Laurier email for a link to a Teams meeting.
    • Writing Centre (Multi-campus): Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Wednesday 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Work for Student Success

Help your fellow students grow their numeracy, studying, and writing skills while gaining professional experience in student affairs. Student Success offers ongoing mentorship and training for student staff as peer tutors and coaches.
