Instructional Assistantships
The Department of Communication Studies frequently hires outstanding students from the CS BA or CS MA programs as Instructional Assistants (IAs) for our 100-level courses.
IAs attend lectures, prepare and lead weekly tutorials, hold office hours, meet with the course instructor, communicate with students in their tutorials, proctor exams as well as mark assignments, exams and final essays.
Students hired for instructional assistantships:
- Practice and perfect communication skills;
- Learn to create a positive and stimulating learning environment;
- Learn to engage autonomously and critically with the course material and required readings; and
- Gain a solid understanding of the basics of written, oral and visual forms of communication.
IAs work closely with faculty members and receive significant mentorship and training.
