Department of Community Health

Health Studies is an interdisciplinary approach to the study of health and health care. You will learn that health is determined by far more than the availability of health care and that health care itself involves more than simply treating illness.

Our Programs

The Department of Community Health is home to both our Community Health (BA) and Community Health (BASc) programs.

It's been said that medicine is both an art and a science, and our Honours Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in Community Health is built around that idea. Starting with the core curriculum of our BA Health Studies programs, we add science courses to ensure that students gain a fundamental understanding of the biological basis of human health and disease.

This combination of coursework in the arts and sciences provides an opportunity for you to understand human health and well-being from perspectives ranging from the cell to society, and should appeal to you if you're looking to maximize both your expertise and career flexibility.

Note: The Public Health (BASc) program changed its name to Community Health (BASc) for September 2020.
