Laurier’s Philosophy Club

Laurier's Philosophy Club welcomes students of any faculty who have an interest in philosophy, and who wish to engage in open philosophical discussion outside of class. This club holds the same values as the discipline itself – including a love of wisdom, and an emphasis on philosophical discussion and debate. Often students will take the opportunity at these meetings to talk about issues raised in their classes, as well as other philosophical topics they personally find interesting. This gives students a chance to hear the views of their fellow classmates, and to defend their own views in a relaxed setting.

We will hold meetings every other week, typically some place on campus where students can sit at a table and order food and drinks. Every once in a while the Philosophy Club is extremely fortunate to have a professor join us at the meeting. Students typically find this very enjoyable. It gives them a chance to talk to a professor in a causal setting, as well as getting to to know the professor on a more personal level. All in all, these meetings are intended to be a fun social gathering of like-minded individuals who love and appreciate philosophy.

Philosophy Speaker Series

Each year the Philosophy Department invites speakers to give public talks about their research. These are excellent opportunities to encounter exciting new ideas, problems, and philosophical methods. Our talks also provide a forum to engage in philosophical discussion with faculty and with other students, so come and be part of the fun.

Join us for our first talk of the season on Friday, October 25 with Dr. Andreea Mihali.
