Assistive Technology
Once registered with Accessible Learning, you can access our assistive technology (AT) labs and services.
AT services offer you a means to:
- Explore how equipment and software might assist academic tasks;
- Get tutorials and tips on software and devices;
- Get technical help with assistive technology;
- Borrow equipment and software; and
- Use assistive technology-equipped areas for quiet study.

Assistive Technology-Equipped Areas
Accessible Learning Student Space
Students can use computers and assistive technology in the Accessible Learning Student Space in the Arts Building, Room 2C7, Waterloo campus. The space is open 24/7.
Contact the assistive technologist or your accommodation consultant to set up access.
Open Computer Labs
Open computer labs across campus have a variety of software such as Kurzweil.
Library Services
Individual Study Rooms
- Reserve a private, lockable study room for up to six hours per day (extensions are possible).
- Room booking policies and specific room descriptions are available.
Computer Stations
Computer workstations are available on the second and third floors (one height-adjustable desk per floor).
Document Magnifier
A document magnifier (20x) is on a height-adjustable desk on the third floor of the Waterloo campus library. It can customize colour settings and contrasts and can read text.
Equipment to Borrow
Headphones, footrest, grabber and cane may be borrowed for three hours from the Services Desk on the main floor.
