How to Apply for Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards

We encourage all students to submit their online student profile(s) through LORIS to be considered for competitive scholarship, award and donor-supported bursary opportunities.

Instead of applying for specific awards, we have created the student profile(s) for Laurier students. By completing the profile(s), you are applying to all awards offered to Laurier students.

The online student profiles:

  • Open in late summer and close early fall each year.
  • Are open to all undergraduate and graduate students, including all full- and part-time students and international students.
  • Helps us determine if you are eligible for a competitive scholarship, award or donor-supported bursary.

Review Important Dates and Deadlines

Don't miss out on awards, scholarships and bursaries you may be eligible for.

Check the awards important dates and deadlines to give yourself enough time to gather your required documents and make sure you apply for an award on time.

Complete Your Profiles

Before you get started, here are some reminders:

  • Check your MyLaurier email regularly for application updates.
  • Submit your profiles on time because late submissions will not be accepted.
  • You must complete the General Student Profile in order to access the Faculty-Specific Profile(s).
  • Complete the financial statement section. Although it isn't mandatory, many award opportunities have a "financial need" component.

LORIS is used to complete your profiles. To learn more about the system and how to use it, see the LORIS page.

Next Steps

Decision Making

Recipients of competitive opportunities are notified via their @mylaurier.ca email between October and March.

All decisions regarding awards are at the discretion of the Student Awards Office. Decisions on recipients for all competitive opportunities are made on an ongoing basis.

If you complete the profile, there is no guarantee that you will be the successful recipient of an award. The profiles are competitive opportunities and the most eligible candidate(s) is chosen as the recipient.

If you do not receive an award this year, this does not mean that you will not be eligible in another year. By filling out the profile(s) every year, you will have the best opportunity to receive an award!

Reviewing and Making Changes

You can review and make changes to your submissions up until the deadline. View your submissions by selecting the "View my Applications" tab. Make sure the application shows as "submitted."

Once the deadline has passed, your profile will show the status of "EXPIRED."

Dropping Courses Consequences

If you drop any course and have received any scholarships, awards or bursaries, the amount may be adjusted or revoked.

Reach out to studentawards@wlu.ca with any specific concerns.

Disbursement of Funds

See the Disbursement of Funds page for more information about how to view your funding and credits to your student accounts.
