Summer Exchanges
If you're interested in a shorter study abroad opportunity, consider going abroad during the summer.
Study at any of Laurier's partner institutions that offer summer programs, where you can earn credits towards your Laurier degree while still paying your Laurier tuition. A summer opportunity:
- Is available to students from all faculties
- Can be from one to eight weeks long.
- Allows you to earn the equivalent of 0.5 to 1.0 credits towards your Laurier degree.
The summer opportunities available to you include:
Summer Exchange Program
The summer exchange program is like our exchange program, except you'll be going abroad for a shorter period (one to eight weeks).
Before you apply for summer exchange, you must watch a recorded summer semester information session (passcode: #SummerAbroad2023).
You must complete 10 Laurier credits to apply.
You can participate in both a summer semester abroad and full-term exchange only with specific permission from your department.
If you are graduating in the fall, you can study abroad in the summer; however, there is no guarantee that the credit transfer process will be completed before the deadline to apply to graduate.
Apply Through Journey
- Go to Journey.
- Select the purple Laurier Student/Faculty/Staff - Sign-In With Your Laurier Account button.
- Enter your Laurier credentials.
- Select Search Programs.
- Select Summer from the "Term(s)" field.
- Click Apply Search.
- Select the host institution you wish to apply for, then click Apply.
- Follow the prompts and complete the fields.
Documentation and Offer Letters
You must submit your required documents to Laurier International by Feb. 1, 2023.
If your application is complete and you are accepted, we will contact you with an offer letter and next steps.
After you submit your completed forms and waivers, we will nominate you to the host institution.
Nomination to Host Institution
Once you are nominated to the host institution:
- Complete the application for your host institution.
- Submit your documents directly to the host institution by their deadline (may vary).
Note: Your acceptance to the program does not guarantee your acceptance to the host institution.
Acceptance Letter from Host Institution
If you are accepted, the host institution will send you an acceptance letter, you must:
- Submit any additional required documents or information by the institution's deadline, if requested.
- Complete mandatory pre-departure sessions as outlined in your offer letter.
Course Credit Transfer Agreement (CCTA) Form
Meet with your academic advisor to complete the CCTA form, which matches your courses taken abroad with the credits on your Laurier transcript.
The number of credits you can earn will depend on the program and opportunity.
You will pay Laurier tuition and fees for the total number of credits you will be earning. If you decide to take fewer credits once you are abroad, you will not receive a refund from Laurier.
Financial awards and/or supplements may be offered on a case-by-case basis from the host institution.
If you are an OSAP recipient, you will retain your OSAP eligibility.
Do not make any travel arrangements until you have received your official acceptance from the host institution.
Before your departure:
- You must complete Laurier International's mandatory pre-departure sessions as outlined in your offer letter.
- Complete the additional health and safety forms in Journey.
You are responsible for your travel preparations, which can include:
- booking your flight
- arranging accommodations
- purchasing travel insurance
- arranging for a visa or study permit, if required
- getting or renewing your passport
Summer Cultural Excursions
Make the most of your summer and develop international experience and skills. With summer cultural excursion opportunities, you pay tuition directly to the host institution and with certain programs, you may even earn Laurier credits.
