Student Employment

Graduate students can obtain employment as teaching assistants or research assistants. For general information applicable to all graduate students, see employment-based funding. For more information on financial support, see funding and awards.

There are also opportunities for both employed and volunteer positions with the Mathematics and Statistics Learning Support.

Teaching Assistantships

Teaching Assistantships are available to full-time students in the Master of Science in Mathematics program. Students are eligible for a maximum of two teaching assistantships over the course of the program. You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to be eligible.

The chair of Mathematics and the graduate coordinator will decide on the allocation of teaching assistantships to students each academic year. Once you have been assigned to TA a particular course, you should meet with the course coordinator to discuss the duties you will be expected to fulfil. Each course will have a Teaching Assistant Job Responsibility form that you and the instructor must sign. The signed forms are to be submitted to the mathematics office for the signature of the graduate coordinator. The forms must be sent to the Faculty of Graduate Studies by the end of the second week of classes for payroll to be processed.

Research Assistantships

Research assistantships may be available to certain graduate students in Mathematics. Contact individual faculty for information. All full-time students are eligible.
