Program Requirements
Note: University regulations apply to all students at Laurier. If there is any discrepancy between the program or progression requirements outlined on this page and those in the university's academic calendars, the academic calendars are the official sources of information. The information below is from the latest calendar, and you may be following progression requirements from an earlier calendar. Students are responsible for checking the appropriate calendar. Contact your program coordinator should you notice any discrepancies.
Programs
The Honours French program consists of a minimum of 20.0 credits, of which at least 14.0 must be at the senior level. Students must take at least 10.0 but no more than 12.0 credits in French, at least 9.0 of which must be senior.

- Language: Four (2.0 credits) of the following language courses:

FR332, FR334, FR335, FR337, FR338, FR370, FR385, FR433, FR434, FR435, FR437,
FR438, FR440, FR485. - French Electives: Six (3.0 credits) to be chosen from the courses above not already taken.
Degree Program Electives:
An additional 10.0 credits for the degree total of 20.0 credits; only 2.0 credits may be FR.

- Grade 11 French: FR102
- Grade 12 Core, or Extended French, or Immersion French: FR150
- Graduation from a French High School: FR250

The Combined Honours French Program consists of a minimum of 20.0 credits, of which at least 14.0 must be at the senior level. A minimum of 8.0 FR credits are required, at least 7.0 of which must be senior.

The Honours BA in Languages consists of 20.0 credits, including a minimum of 14.0 credits must be at the senior level, and including a minimum of 12.5 credits from Categories A and B. The 12.5 credits are as follows:
- A: Linguistic and Cultural Perspectives (1.0 credit from the following courses): LL200, LL201, LL223, LL224, MI201, MI202 and MI288*.
- B: Three Target Languages (14.0 credits, see Note 1):

Electives can be chosen from the department (above and beyond the requirements in A and B) or from other areas of the university. These elective credits may form part of a minor.

The Department of Languages and Literatures recommends that students participate in the third year abroad program, which can be arranged through Laurier International.

- Students with OAC or Grade 12U Spanish must replace SP100*, or both SP101 and SP102 with 1.0 senior credit in Spanish
- SP223 and SP228 if not counted as required 200 level courses can be taken to complete 4.5 senior level courses.
- Among the 4.5 senior credits, studnets may only take a maximum of 1.0 credit of courses taught in english (SP220 at Laurier and SPAN courses at UW taught in Spanish). Consult with the Languages and Literatures Undegraduate Officer at langandlitadvising@wlu.ca regarding UW course options, prerequisites, and exclusions.

- Students in Honours BA Languages and Literatures, Honours BA French or combined Honours French cannot obtain the option in French. Students cannot obtain both a minor and option in French.

Arabic Studies Minor
The Minor in Arabic Studies offers the posibility to obtain a working knowledge of the language while presenting students with a cultural understanding of the regions where Arabic is spoken. Arabic could be used as a component of the Honours BA in Languages:
