The information below provides an overview of each of our exchange partner institutions. For more detailed information, such as course information, accommodation options, specific dates and more, log in to Journey and look up our partner institutions under the Search Programs tab.
Check the Canadian government's travel advisories for any country you are thinking of visiting, even as a side trip.
Choosing an Institution for Exchange
When choosing an institution for exchange, there are many things to consider, including:
- The term dates at the institution.
- If you need to return to Canada for the next term for school, co-op or work, and if the institution's term dates will impact this.
- Courses available to you as an exchange student.
- Student services and support, and if you need to register in advance to access any services.
- The cost of living where the institution is located and how that relates to your budget.
- Residence and housing options, and what is available to exchange students.
- Safety.
- Your own preferences, including the size and location of the campus, the overall student population, the number of international students and the city/country location.

Why Choose Australian Catholic University?
- You have the choice between six campuses all across the east coast of Australia (depending on your program).
- Professors are understanding and approachable. Your relationship with them is very informal and relaxed. Many courses already include or have the option of studying with an Australian focus (e.g. "Australian Cinema" and the "Sociology of Race and Ethnicity in Australia").
- Courses are easy to switch and professors have no problem discussing the course material with you so you have a better understanding of what you’re getting into.
- Since the campuses are generally located within or just outside a city, you have excellent access to public transportation and all the accommodations of a city (restaurants, shopping, entertainment).

Why Choose University of Canberra?

Why Choose Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU)?
- The university is a national key university of China and directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education.
- The university is located in Beijing, the heart of China. Many of the capital's "bests" are also China's "bests". Most known among these are the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, Tian'anmen Square and the Great Wall of China, which is the only man-made structure visible from space.

Why Choose a University in Chongqing?
- One of the most famous cities in China and the launching point for boat trips down the Yangtze River through the Three Gorges Dam.
- See the Dazu Rock Carvings: the earliest carvings date back to 650 A.D. in the Tang Dynasty and the carving process wasn’t finished until the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912)
- Visit the ancient battlefield, Diao Yu Cheng, known as Eastern Mecca City or the Place Where God Broke His Whip, and the place where the invincible Mongke was defeated.

You can also join the Liang Jiang You program to watch the night view on a cruise. Liang Jiang refers to the two rivers — Jia Ling River and Yangtze River — which together hold Chongqing in their arms.

Laurier has two exchange agreements with Aarhus University. This means that Aarhus University: Business and Social Sciences and Aarhus University: Faculty of Arts count as separate choices on the exchange application. As well, students from different faculties are able to apply to either (or both, if your program of study aligns) options at Aarhus University.

Why Choose Université Jean Monnet?
- Universite Jean Monnet is centred in the beautiful towns of Saint-Étienne and Roanne, in the Rhone Alps region of Eastern France. Named for the "Father of Europe" and founder of the European Community, the university was created in 1969. It is a private school comprised of several faculties each with its own campus, such as the faculties of Medicine, Arts, Languages and Literature, Law, Economics, and two technological institutes.
- Excels at combining theory and innovative practices in teaching as well as in research. It remains in high standing amongst France's top universities, with strong international relations.
- Saint-Étienne is only about 150 km from Lyon and Grenoble, and Paris can be reached in under three hours by train. It received the Art and History City Award, and its inhabitants are famous throughout France for their hospitality. As a way to illustrate the amount of agreeable surprises the city promises, the local saying goes: "It seems one cries two times in Saint-Étienne, once when you arrive and again when you leave."

- Note: When considering Karlstad for exchange, be sure to check the term dates. Karlstad does no have a set exam period like Laurier, and all exams much be written at Karlstad. Students are expected to stay at Karlstad until the end of each semester, as each class is assessed differently with various assignments and exams. The fall term can end as late as January and the spring term (which is equivalent to Laurier's winter term) can end as late as June.
