Registration Process for Laurier Students

Laurier students are able to take courses at the University of Waterloo (UW) through cross-registration.

The Winter 2022 request form will re-open on November 1, 2021.

To Qualify to Take a University of Waterloo Course:

  • You are required to complete a minimum of 3.0 credits at Laurier (transfer credits excluded).
  • You must currently hold a minimum cumulative grade point average of 4.00.
  • You may not be on Academic Probation in a General Program or in post-degree studies, including sequential degree.
  • You cannot exceed your program residence requirements.
  • You must obtain written approval from your program's Department and Academic Advisor.
  • You must have an approved course equivalency from Laurier to accompany your request.

Note: The course equivalency must come from the department of the course you are requesting. For example, if you are requesting to take a Math course, your course equivalency must come from the Math department

If you receive approval and meet the above requirements, complete the Cross-Registration Form when the form re-opens on November 1, 2021.

Process at a Glance:

  • Preview your requested course(s) on the UW Undergraduate Course Schedule.
  • Obtain email approval from your Academic Advisor in a format that can be uploaded (e.g. "I approve John Smith to take BI101 at UW...").
  • Obtain email Department approval from the Laurier department that matches the course you are requesting to take at UW.
    •  For example, if you are a Business student requesting to take a UW Math course, you must obtain academic approval from Laurier's Business department and department approval from Laurier's Math department.
  • Ensure you have an approved course equivalency prior to completing the form.
  • Complete the Cross-Registration Form and upload your approvals. Submissions will be automatically sent to UWCrossReg@wlu.ca

Note: The Department of Languages and Literatures will approve the following courses: French, Spanish, German, Italian and Arabic. All other language courses do not require a Languages and Literatures advisor signature (e.g. Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Chinese). Email UWCrossReg@wlu.ca with further questions.

Important Dates and Considerations:

  • Adds for cross-registered courses must be submitted at Laurier according to UW add deadline dates.
  • Drops for cross-registered courses must be submitted at Laurier according to Laurier drop deadline dates.
  • Your tuition fees will be due to Laurier with the rest of your tuition fees.
  • A separate form must be completed for each term you are registering.
  • It can take up to 7-10 business days to process once the form is received. Once you are successfully cross registered at the University of Waterloo, you will receive a confirmation email.
  • If further information is required after your form is submitted, you will receive an email from UWCrossReg@wlu.ca.

Registration Process for UW Students

University of Waterloo students are able to take courses at Laurier through cross-registration.

Similar to Laurier students, you will need to complete a cross-registration form from the University of Waterloo, including receiving approval from your academic advisor and approval from the Laurier instructor for on-campus courses. Please submit your completed forms by email to UWCrossReg@wlu.ca.

It is important to note that when adding courses, you will need to follow Laurier’s course registration dates. You can view our important dates and deadlines in our Academic Calendar. Tuition fees will be charged and paid to University of Waterloo; however, some course-specific fees, such as online learning fees, will be charged to your Laurier account.

If you have any questions about taking a course through cross-registration, email UWCrossReg@wlu.ca.

Fall 2021 Cross Registration forms will not be reviewed until the week of August 9.
